INEC Declares Imo North Rerun Election Inconclusive

The rerun election for the Imo North (Okigwe Senatorial  District) held on Saturday has been declared inconclusive by the Independent National Electoral Commission  (INEC).


Also declared inconclusive were the election for both Oru East and Isiala Mbano and some areas for Imo State House of Assembly.

Our correspondent reports that there was a heavy shoot out at Okata and Amiri polling units in the Oru East Council Area while pockets of violence were also reported in some voting centers in Okigwe and Onuimo  council areas respectively

The returning officer in charge of the election, Prof. Arinze Agbogu, who announced this while briefing newsmen said that All progressives Congress candidate Hon. Ben Uwajumogu, pulled a total of 48,921 votes as against 40,142 scored by his PDP opponent, Athan Achonu

He said that a supplementary election would be conducted in the 15 pooling unites across the Okigwe senatorial zone where election were not held and that a new date for another rerun would be fixed by the INEC. While the voting margin stands at 8,777, a total of 13,000 registered voters are expected to participate in the would be rerun he said.
